The companies who are making use of the computer at the workplace also find the requirement of the data protection legislation. Modern computer The modern computer is an electronic device that has the capability to store, process data and retrieve. The computer can perform a task such as a web browsing, web processing and the database management (Patterson, and Hennessy, 2017). The modern computer consists of software and the hardware components. The modern computer comes in the different forms such as desktop and the laptop. Hardware components and software components of the modern computer Hardware components of the modern computer consist of the electronic and the mechanical parts. The major hardware components are processor (CPU), secondary memory, main memory, output as well as input devices (Tanenbaum, 2016). Processor: - It is an electronic device almost a one-inch square. There is the presence of the small square of the silicon that contains the millions of the small electric part inside the square. It performs the fundamental computing in the system and it controls the other components either directly or indirectly. This processor is also known as Central Processing Unit. Main Memory: - The main memory of the computer is closely connected with the CPU. The main memory can store them easily and quickly store the data that helps in holding the programs and the data given by the processor. The main memory interacts with the CPU millions of times per second. This memory needs constant electricity to keep its information (Levy, 2014). Secondary memory: - This memory is connected to the main memory through controller and bus. This memory is used for the long-term storage of data and programs. The stored data in the secondary memory can simply change but these changes are very slow as compared to main memory. Data and programs can be used once they would be copied from the secondary memory to main memory. Input and the output device: - The input and output devices of the computer system are directly connected to the module which is linked to the motherboard of the system and commonly known as a device controller. Some of the output devices are a keyboard, microphone, barcode reader, and mouse. Some of the input devices are a monitor, printer, and speaker. Input and output devices are usually known as I/O devices (Casey, 2015). Software components of the modern computer consist of computer and data programs. The major software components are operating systems software and application software (Siewiorek, and Swarz, 2017). Operating system software: - The operating system is a program that loads once the computer will start. This helps the user to make the easy use of the modern computer without knowing about the hardwares and the bit and bytes of the computer. Application software: - This software start working once the operating system loads in the computer. The application software consists of various types of software such as game programs, web browsers, graphic programs, word processors, spreadsheets, and database system. Advantages of the computers in the workplace The use of the technology like a computer is beneficially at the workplace because this technology helps the company in achieving the strategic goals and objectives of a company. Save time- The use of the technology helps to accomplish the task on time with the assurance of the efficiency and productivity in work. The use of computers at workplace helps in making corrections on real-time and reduces the human errors. Employees of the company can easily access the details from the single place. Creates mobility- The use of the computer and internet at the workplace has eliminated time and space boundaries. Employees can simply work anywhere and anytime, this helps the employees to keep the control on their jobs (Ramey, 2013). Modern computers help to continue the professional meetings without going anywhere. Encourages innovation and creativity- At the workplace with the use of the modern computer; employees can create innovative business ideas. The internet technology can be used by the employees to get the innovative ideas. Improves HRM- The human resource management also feels the relaxation with the use of the modern computers. The manager of the HR team can post the details relate to the opening of the positions in the company (Mohanty, 2013). It is helpful for the HR to track the performance and the productivity of the employees. Problems and threats of the computer in the workplace The use of the computer brings the benefits for the company but seeing the other aspect of this there are some of the potential problems and threats that the company faces. Risky- The use of a modern computer can be risky in context to data security. The employees should be able to make the correct decision whether to access the details of the private business or not. This can be a threat for the company to monitor and manage the use and privacy of the information (Leavitt, 2013). Affects Workplace relationship- The usage of the modern computer makes the employees communicate via email, chat or virtual video and conferring tool. This type of communication technology avoids the face-to-face communication. Interpersonal communication plays a vital role in building the relationship but technology use can create an impact on the workplace relationships (Guerin, 2017). Makes employees lazy- The employees at the workplace make use of the computer for the calculation of sales and for tracking inventory. The employees are not willing to use the brains at work; they believe the use of computers for the calculation is far better than using brains. Cause distraction at work- The employees at workplace get distracted with the use of technology. The social networks sites are used by the HR team of the company to post the opening on sites but thus may engage the employees in chatting and browsing the personal accounts. Ergonomic consideration In the modern 21st century workplace the ergonomic consideration exits in the use of the computers. The ergonomic is a science of designing the workplace considering the limitations and the capabilities of the employees in mind. These ergonomic affect the users because of the no adjustment in the keyboard, monitor, and many other things (The University of Western Australia, 2017). Problems faced by the users The users who use the computer might face the because of the ergonomic considerations. The issue with the size of monitors at the workplace can create an impact on the neck because the users have to place the neck in the awkward posture because of the design. The awkward posture for a long period of time causes discomfort and strain for the person. The neck posture should be kept straight while looking towards the main monitor. The risk of the awkward posture is due to the wide monitors set as vertical monitors because the user bends the neck backward to view the top of the monitor. It is truly said as long as the use of the laptop and desktop exist, there will be musculoskeletal pin to the users due to static and poor postures. The use of the computer at the workplace poses a physical danger to the employees or users. Data Protection Legislation The data protection legislation is must at the places where there is a usage of the computer. The electronic privacy regulations include the dealing with the data protection of the e-mail, SMS, and internet use. It is must for the company to protect their details or the company informations and secrets. The threat related to the cybercrime, security breaches are increasing in number day by day. It is the responsibility of the company to keep the track of the details saved in the computer (Data Protection Commissioner, 2017). Keep the details save in their hand only, never reveals the information related to the important details. Conclusion The report throws light on the increasing usage of the Morden computers at the workplace. This helps the employees to accomplish the strategic goals and objectives of the company. The Modern computer consists of both hardware and the software components. Apart from the advantage of the modern computer, there are certain disadvantages as well. The company who is using the modern computer at the workplace need to deal with the problems, a company can make certain rules and policy to avoid the problems. The ergonomic consideration is creating an impact on the physical health of the employees at the workplace. The availability of the adjustment with the systems can reduce the problem faced by the users. The data protection is must for the company for the successful running of the business.
